Orlando, the mistreated youngest son of the late Sir Rowland De Boys, travels to the court of the usurping Duke Frederick where he meets and falls in love with Rosalind, daughter of the rightful duke. Later Rosalind is also exiled and, disgused as a boy, she travels with her cousin Celia and Touchstone the fool into the Forest of Arden where her father resides. Orlando is forced to flee for his life with Margaret his old nurse, and joins Duke Senior's rustic court-in-exile. With all the main players in the forest, it is not surprising when the love-struck Orlando encounters an effeminate youth called "Ganymede" who sets about instructing him in the art of wooing. Meanwhile, Touchstone courts Audrey the Goatherd, a shepherdess, Phebe (herself the goddess of Silvius the shepherd) tumbles headlong into love with Ganymede, and Orlando's older brother, Oliver, follows him to Arden, bent on murder. Romance, redemption and hilarity inevitably ensue. | |||
